Things to do in Italy

Italy is the rare country where the obvious icons are still worth it, and the everyday details may be even better.

Italy can overwhelm because almost every region feels like it could anchor a full trip. Roman ruins, Renaissance cities, alpine lakes, volcanic coasts, island cultures, farm kitchens, and train-station espresso all belong to the same national story without feeling interchangeable.

The best Italy plans are selective: choose a region deeply, or connect a few places with enough space to eat, wander, and be surprised. Spring and fall are the most comfortable for cities and countryside, while August is hot, crowded in famous places, and quieter in some business districts as locals leave town.
