The stops we'd build a Split trip around
One honest pick per place, and why. Open any for the full verdict. The planner arranges these into your days for you.
- Diocletian's Palace Worth it
Go, but do not expect a quiet archaeological park.
- Cathedral of Saint Domnius Worth it
This is the paid sight inside Diocletian's Palace I would keep.
- Peristyle (Peristil) Worth it with caveats
Peristyle is free to cross and worth seeing, but it is much better when you do not rush it.
- Temple of Jupiter Worth it with caveats
The Temple of Jupiter is small but worth it if you like old buildings where the layers are visible.
- The Golden Gate Worth it with caveats
The Golden Gate is a small stop, but it pays off if you know what you are seeing.
- Marjan Forest Park Worth it
Marjan Forest Park is one of the easiest good decisions in Split.
- Ivan Meštrović Gallery Worth it with caveats
Ivan Meštrović Gallery is not the loudest Split sight, and that is why I like it.
- Klis Fortress Worth it with caveats
Klis Fortress earns the trip for the view, the pass, and the Meereen connection.
Good to know before you plan
Where we would spend carefully, or not at all.
- The Substructures of Diocletian's Palace Worth it with caveats The Substructures are worth paying for if you like architecture, Roman history, or places that show how a city was built over itself. If you mainly want pretty courtyards, cafes, and sea views, stay above ground.
- Peristyle (Peristil) Worth it with caveats Peristyle is free to cross and worth seeing, but it is much better when you do not rush it. At the right hour it feels like the center of old Split. At the wrong hour it can feel like a crowded photo stop with Roman columns.
- Temple of Jupiter Worth it with caveats The Temple of Jupiter is small but worth it if you like old buildings where the layers are visible. Go for the ceiling, the sphinx, and the odd survival of a Roman shrine inside a lived-in city.
- The Golden Gate Worth it with caveats The Golden Gate is a small stop, but it pays off if you know what you are seeing. Do not treat it as a quick photo prop. Use it as the best place to enter Diocletian's Palace on foot.
